Thank you John E. for giving me and other young engineers the opportunity to grow at EMS and to share technical ideas with you.  You taught us to use our intellect to solve the hard problems of the moment quickly while never losing sight of growing as an entrepreneurial company.   I will never forget your candor in signing my engineering notebook on the first luneberg lens patent – f###ing brilliant!

When Pippin and his special friends from Sperry came to Scientific-Atlanta, there was a lot of excitement about what this new division, called Research and Development, would contribute.  Getting him to accept me as a glorified secretary transferring to this new department wasn't easy.  And, once on board, our relationship continued to be stormy.  But it was always exciting and educational and rewarding.  I returned home each day full of my comments on my day with Pippin to the point that a neighbor's small child once asked her mom, "What's a Pippin?"

He was so special and so gifted.  He'll never be forgotten by all of us who were fortunate enough to be a part of his parade.

I can never forget the wonderful times with John as his neighbor at Lake Burton.  He always kept everyone laughing.  I have wonderful memories of racing my brother from our dock to John's dock.  We would yell and scream in the water, but John never minded.  Then I had the privilege of watching all of John's grandchildren grow up.  What an incredible journey it has been.  I feel very lucky to have had John in my life.

Love,

Becky Davidson
