Mark Williams LXE Field Engineer July 16, 2007

I would like to extend my sinerest condolences to Dr. Pippin's family for thier loss. I began working for LXE in 1987 and had the opporunity of knowing Dr. Pippin personally as a result. I have remained with LXE for so long because of the true "family like" atmosphere that Dr. Pippin fostered in his work environments and I was always encouraged to think for myself and make decisions as a person and an individual on behalf of a company that I always felt a real ownership in. There aren't many jobs out there like that and there aren't many people like Dr. Pippin originating them.

Thank you Dr. Pippin for helping me grow as an individual and train myself, through employment with LXE, to  realize dreams and become the person that I would have never thought possible in my youth when I started here. Thank you also for helping me make that giant step from military life to a place in the civilian community and thank you also for giving me a chance to rise from "working poor" to a decent place in the middle class of our society.

The world needs more people like you,

Mark D. Williams

Gerald Hickman Friend and former employee July 16, 2007
I first met John when I graduated from Old Miss and he gave me my first job. I am priviledged to have worked for him in two more companies since that time, and am a better man for it. He exhibited both leadership and compassion to his employees, and he will be deeply missed and long remembered. Par Lee and I have lost wonderful friends in John and Barbara, and we offer our sincere condolences to his family, as well as for the loss of a great leader to the business, educational, and scientific communities. Sincerely, Gerald Hickman

To all EMS Employees:
I am saddened to announce the passing of the company's founder and first CEO, Dr. John E. Pippin, 79, on Friday July 13, 2007.

Dr. Pippin founded EMS Technologies (then Electromagnetic Sciences Inc.), along with eight employees, in 1968, and retired as the company chairman in 1998. Dr. Pippin's entrepreneurial spirit and visionary leadership have given EMS its strong technology foundation. It's that foundation that has served EMS so well, and has continued to be a hallmark of our company.

Under Dr. Pippin's leadership the company pioneered the use of ferrite technology in space applications and the electronically steerable antenna. Today, almost every major military satellite flying in space carries EMS hardware.  Dr. Pippin's combination of technical expertise and business acumen was recognized throughout his life with many awards including, IEEE Engineer of the Year in 1972 and as an inaugural inductee into the Georgia Tech Hall of Fame in 1993.
Dr. Pippin was always proud of the entrepreneurial spirit and the talent of the people at EMS.  "We were an entrepreneurial company from day one," Pippin stated in a company videotape created to observe EMS's 30th anniversary in 1998.  "The main reason we were successful was our people."

The family will receive friends on Monday July 16, 2007, 5 to 9:00PM at Crowell Brothers Funeral Home, 5051 Peachtree Industrial Boulevard, Norcross, GA.  The Funeral Service will be Tuesday, July 17, 2007 11:00AM at Norcross First United Methodist Church, 2500 Beaver Ruin Rd, Norcross, GA.

The family has established a site to express online condolences at www.johnepippin.last-memories.com. We have also set up a memorial to Dr. Pippin in the HR Fishbowl where employees can write their condolences to Dr. Pippin's family.
